A programmable attenuator is a variable attenuator with a specific dB step size and total attenuation.  All of the models in this table are 50 Ohm impedance with electro-mechanical relay design.  The attenuation steps are controlled parallel control lines.  JFW has been designing, manufacturing, and delivering programmable attenuators for over 25 years.  For your specific application, please contact JFW for assistance or use our Inquiry Form.
    Control Lines
The attenuators are available with either TTL or direct Voltage control. For direct Voltage control the DC voltages are typically +12Vdc, +15Vdc, +24Vdc, or +28Vdc.  These DC Voltages are applied to the control feedthru pins to activate an attenuation step. With no control applied the relay is failsafe to the thru path setting (i.e. 0dB). Activate multiple dB steps simultaneously to set combination attenuation values.  Example: to achieve 7dB of total attenuation activate the 1dB/2dB/4dB steps simultaneously. 50 Ohm Solid-State Programmable Attenuators (TTL)

A programmable attenuator is a variable attenuator with a specific dB step size and total attenuation.  All of the models in this table are 50 Ohm impedance with solid-state design.  The attenuation steps are controlled via parallel TTL control lines.  JFW has been designing, manufacturing, and delivering programmable attenuators for over 25 years.  For your specific application, please contact JFW for assistance.
    Solid-State Design
These attenuator models all have a solid-state design which allows for switching speeds in the microseconds.  With no moving parts, these solid-state step attenuators are perfect for automated RF testing.  The attenuators have typical MTBF of 250,000 hours and excellent attenuation repeatability.
    TTL Control
The models listed in the table have parallel TTL lines for the attenuator control lines.  There is a TTL line for each attenuation step.  Activate multiple dB steps simultaneously to set combination attenuation values.  Example: to achieve 7dB of total attenuation activate the 1dB/2dB/4dB steps simultaneously. • 50 Ohm Solid-State Programmable Attenuators (USB)

    50 Ohm Solid-State Programmable Attenuators (USB) (10)

USB programmable attenuator with SMA femaleUSB Attenuator (50 Ohm Solid-State)

The USB attenuator has become a popular choice for companies and universities with its small size and ability to be easily controlled using the USB port of a computer. The attenuator models listed below are all bi-directional solid-state step attenuators with 50 Ohm impedance. These attenuators are ideal for fade testing cellular or Wi-Fi devices. Our test software can control multiple USB attenuators simultaneously allowing for handover testing from a single GUI menu. If you do not find an exact match for your requirement please contact our engineering department with your RF specifications.
    Test Software for USB Attenuators
Every USB attenuator from JFW ships with our GUI test software. The test software will auto-discover any JFW USB attenuator that is connected to the computer. The test software can control multiple USB attenuators simultaneously. The test software requires Microsoft Windows Vista or greater. Our test software manual details all of its functionality like built-in attenuator fade and dual attenuator handover.
    Python Library Available
Several of our customers use Python to run test scripts that control multiple pieces of RF test equipment. JFW developed a Python library (jfwusb.py) that allows our USB attenuators to be integrated into the test scripts. Email our engineering department for the Python library and examples.
